When you’re a parent, those days with your child can start to feel a little monotonous. Yes, of course, there is daily magic when you are playing pirates or building castles, but there are plenty of times when you just need to get out and do something new. As a Virginia Beach family photographer, I have spent the past several years helping parents figure out how to make some new memories. Now, I’m here to provide you with my go-to list of recommendations. If you need the perfect way to break out of your routine, I would love to give you my favorite Virginia Beach kids activities.
717 General Book Blvd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451
Virginia Aquarium gives you different ways to experience all the creatures that call the water their home. You can get out on a boat and see them in their natural habitat, schedule a behind-the-scenes tour, or just spend some time at one of the best aquariums in the nation. They regularly change exhibits, so each time, you can see something new!
583 Atlantic Ave, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23459
Cape Henry Lighthouse is open every day of the week to ensure you can stop by and see one of the coolest artifacts out there. The lighthouse was the very first public works project funded by the United States government, with authorization from George Washington and oversight from Alexander Hamilton. Just note that the top of the lighthouse runs pretty hot, so they close it down during the warmest summer days.
849 General Booth Blvd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451
Need somewhere to go on those Virginia days that are just too hot to function? Head over to Ocean Breeze Waterpark! This park has something for all ages. From towering waterslides to relaxing lazy rivers, it’s the best way to beat the heat.
3500 Granby Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23504
Virginia Zoo has spent over a century teaching kids all about some pretty incredible animals. The zoo is committed to conservation. Throughout your trip, you will not only see lions, foxes, rhinos, and sloths, but you will also learn about the work being done to protect their future generations.
221 High Street, Portsmouth, Virginia 23704
Children’s Museum of Virginia is my favorite recommendation for curious kiddos. This center comes stocked with hands-on activities that teach kids about the world. You can stand inside of a giant bubble, see some antique toy trains in action, find out how the body works, or spend some time in the STEM Studio.
Boardwalk & 2nd Street, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451
Grommet Island Park is an accessible oceanfront park that was created for kids with all abilities. The aesthetics of the park stay on theme by incorporating dolphins, surfboards, and waves. There are also beach wheelchairs that are free to use.
If you want to make some memories this year, head on over to these Virginia Beach kids activities. And if you want to make them extra frame-worthy, I can help you out.
