The Chesapeake Arboretum: A Stunning Location for Your Photos

Nestled in the heart of Chesapeake, the Chesapeake Arboretum is 51 acres of gorgeous natural backdrop for all your photography needs. Besides being a beautiful backdrop for maternity, family, and senior photos, the arboretum is a great way to experience and learn about Virginia’s natural foliage. As you explore the arboretum, you will notice signs and displays, educating you about the plant you are looking at. In this blog post, I will outline the reasons I love Chesapeake Arboretum as a location for photos. Whether you’re wanting a sweet maternity session, a fun-filled family session, or lots of variety for your senior session, the Chesapeake Arboretum is a great choice!

The Charm of the Chesapeake Arboretum

Along with gorgeous natural foliage and cultivated plants, the Chesapeake Arboretum also offers some unique architectural options for photos. A historic farmhouse sits on the property, as well as a pretty gazebo. Both are great options for a background. Another favorite is the red storage shed, which has a barn-like door, adding a country feel to any images. Once you enter the arboretum itself, there are 11 bridges, which all have a unique look and feel. Within the arboretum is also Camelia Cove, which is surrounded by a pretty white picket fence.

Combining the architectural elements with the diverse natural elements makes the Chesapeake Arboretum the ideal location for photos. If you are looking for photos that have a variety of backgrounds, without having to travel to multiple locations, the arboretum is an excellent option. Show off your personality with outfit changes during your senior session. Give your kids the chance to explore during a family session. Or create beautiful artwork that matches your nursery during your maternity session.

Seasonal Beauty

Because of its diverse foliage, the Chesapeake Arboretum is an excellent year-round option for photos. Home to a camelia garden, as well as other florals, you will find pretty spring blooms at the arboretum. Florals always add visual interest to a photo. Once summer is in full swing, the trees are green and lush, creating a forest feel to your images. In fall, mums are growing and the deciduous trees show off as they turn brilliant shades of yellow, orange, and red. The sun peeking through on these fall colors always makes for gorgeous photos. And, because the arboretum is home to pine trees as well as deciduous, you will still have lovely greens for your winter images. Good winter locations are especially important for mamas-to-be, who will need photos around 28-36 weeks, which can happen any time of year!

A Fun Option for Family Photos

If your family is the type that enjoys adventures, or your kids love to explore, the Chesapeake Arboretum is a great choice for family photos. The farmhouse, gazebo, and red shed are great starting points for traditional family photos. You can pose all together and get those ”smile at the camera” shots. But once you enter the arboretum proper, you will find pathways winding through the trees, and endless opportunities for exploration. This is where you can capture those sweet candid moments. Your toddler bringing you a pinecone, your children running across a bridge, exploring the forest. The Chesapeake Arboretum is sure to be a memorable setting for family photos.

Maternity Magic Amidst Nature

When looking for the perfect location for your maternity photos, you’ll have a few things you want to keep in mind. First, you will want to consider what the location looks like seasonally. Second, you will want a location that is fairly easy to navigate with your changing body. Third, you may want the option of several different backgrounds, to give your gallery variety. Luckily, the Chesapeake Arboretum meets all of these needs, making it an excellent choice for maternity photos!

Variety for Senior Sessions

When getting your senior casuals done, you want options. These are the sessions you get to have fun! You’ll probably bring changes of outfit. Goodbye boring curtain and black outfit! The Chesapeake Arboretum is a great location for senior pictures. As outlined above, you will have a variety of backgrounds to choose from at the arboretum itself from flowers, to trees, to fun architecture. But the icing on the cake is that it’s down the street from Oak Grove Lake Park, making it an excellent choice if you wanted to include more than one location in your session.

The local foliage, combined with the interesting architectural elements offers a variety of possibilities when it comes to backdrop for your photos. The walking path through the trees lends itself to exploration making this a fun location for littles. The convenience and walkability make the arboretum ideal for the mama-to-be. And the proximity to second locations add a level of desirability for the senior who wants a lot of options.
